The Australian Masters Association AGM is held every September and discusses/agrees matters of interest to affiliated clubs. Val Millard attended this year’s meeting and her informal report is enclosed here for your interest. This report, along with other AGM reports, sits under the ‘About Us’ tab. Report on AMA AGM 2013
Way back in February, John Oldfield sat his Athletics Australia Level A track exam. He has just had his result – and he has passed. John becomes only the second Level A qualified track official in Western Australia. John and Christine have been selected by WMA to officiate at the upcoming World Championships, so those travelling to Brazil will see them hard at work.
After 10 years on the AMA Board, MAWA Life Member Lynne Schickert has decided not to re-nominate for a Board position for 2013-14. From 2003 to 2009 Lynne was AMA President and from 2009 to 2013 remained a Board member where her portfolios included Communications and Marketing, with an ongoing commitment compiling the AMA History. For the past 7 years she has been involved in the production of the AMA Handbook.
Lynne remains involved with Masters Athletics at the highest levels, retaining her ongoing commitments to Oceania Masters Athletics, where she is the Oceania Region delegate to World Masters Athletics and is the WMA representative on the Perth 2016 Championship Committee. Lynne will continue to provide support for the production of the AMA Handbook.
Masters Athletics WA extend their warmest wishes to Lynne and thank her for her enormous contribution to the administration and promotion of Masters Athletics locally, Australia-wide and Internationally.
The Mattagarup Run on September 22 will be organised by Committee members Richard Blurton, Paul Hughes and Carol Bowman, in the absence of a race director. All helpers who have nominated for this run should contact Richard or Paul before the run and they will appreciate help from any other members on the day. The course will differ from the published map. The 10K will start at Burswood, go over the Windan Bridge, up the river towards Maylands, past Bardon Park to 5K and return. There will be a suitable turn around the 2.5km mark for the shorter distance.
If no race director can be found for this and other Sunday runs on next year’s program, the Club will either have to revert to group jogs, or will not be able to organise a run each week. Let’s hope this doesn’t happen!
David Carr has been nominated by Oceania Masters Athletics Council for the IAAF Masters Athlete of the Year Award. Nominations from each of the WMA Regions will be considered at a WMA council meeting in Porto Alegre in October and winners announced.
Masters Athletics WA congratulates David on his nomination. David’s outstanding record of achievements makes him a worthy nominee for this prestigious award and our best wishes go to him.
Over the next 4 -6 weeks the committee will be carrying out a survey to get your views on how effectively we communicate with members. The survey also includes a question related to the future of vetrun.
To maximise participation, the survey will take the form of a short face to face discussion at either a Sunday run or a track meet. The survey is anonymous but you can record your name on the response sheet if you wish. Ross Keane, (Sundays), and the Thomas family, (track), have kindly agreed to carry out the survey.
If you will not be at a club event, the survey questionnaire is here Communications survey. You can return your form by email, post or by handing to a committee member. Alternatively just email your answers to the club secretary at email@example.com.
We would like a large response to this survey so that the results are truly representative of members’ views.
The survey results will be published.
Entry Forms are now on AMA website under “Future Events” The post will be amended when online entries are available.
This coming Saturday (7/9) was not included in our training dates but WAAS has now become available.
Training will now be held every Saturday in September from 9.30 – 11.00.
We desperately need a Race Director for the MATTAGARUP RUN on 22 SEPTEMBER. This is a straightforward 10K/5K course from Burswood over Windan Bridge through East Perth and back to Burswood via the Causeway. Helpers have been arranged. The Race Director will need to collect the equipment from Darlington Dash the week before. If you can help, see Paul Hughes or Val Millard at a Sunday run, or contact Val on firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 6468 7720,
