The MAWA committee last night approved the following nominations:

Sprints/Hurdles. Wendy Seegers. Another amazing year for Wendy with 2 W40 Australian records and 2 World Titles

Middle Distance/Steeples. Rob Nichols. Great year for Rob in the Steeplechase with a State Record, a National title, and a bronze at Worlds

Distance. Janet Ferguson. What a year for Janet – 2 World Titles and taking a 5000m State record from the late, great Anne Shaw

Walks. Lynne Schickert. A World bronze and an Australian record for Lynne in the gruelling 20km event

Jumps. Melissa Foster. Once again World Triple Jump champion

Throws. Byrony Glass. Right at the end of the age-group, Byrony still won 3 World Titles and broke 2 Australian records

Multi-events. Mark Jeffery. Mark’s decathlon at the State Open Champs earned him 7299 points, an Australian record and only 5% short of the World record

Most outstanding female athlete. Wendy Seegers

Most outstanding male athlete. Matt Staunton.  Exceptional year for Matt with an Australian Weight Pentathlon record, and a gold, 2 silvers at the World Championships.

Most outstanding individual performance. Wendy’s 200m time of 24.52s at a Strive meeting

Once again MAWA is able to put forward an outstanding list of nominees. We wish them luck – the winners will be announced at the Awards Dinner in Darwin in June
