A man who devoted his life to service and gave freely to everyone he encountered, Basil Worner died on the morning of April 25, Anzac Day. He suffered a stroke two days earlier, shortly after returning from Brisbane, where, typically, he was assisting and supporting in coaching young athletes.
An early member of this club, Basil was enormously active on our behalf, as an organiser, representative, race director, coach, editor and more. Above all he was a friend to all, welcoming and encouraging newcomers as readily as he engaged with the wider Perth community.
Basil and his wife, Kath, lived in Albany since the 1990s but in accordance with his wishes he will be interred at Karrakatta with other members of the Worner family. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
